Fascists on the March
There really are some fascists on the march in Europe — but you absolutely cannot trust our media to tell you who they are.
This is a very frustrating reality. Dreher already has some good comments, including this:
David Marcus says that The Economist, the flagship journal of globalist neoliberalism, got this basic fact about Ben Shapiro wrong because the Left simply does not understand conservatism to begin with. This is because so many senior journalists live in a bubble where elementary distinctions among conservatives are invisible to them.
Calling Ben Shapiro alt-right was a rhetorical tactic designed to discredit him. It is not intended to actually convey accurate truths or facts.
This is what the Right continually misunderstands about the Left. How many times a week do we hear that the Left have gone ‘insane’? And what difference does it make? None. The Left’s rhetoric is not designed to map onto reality. It is designed to dominate and win. That’s why it can accommodate such wildly dissonant and contradictory positions.
They don’t want to be ‘correct’. They want to win. After they win, whatever they say is correct will be the new ‘correct’.
For example, here’s a headline in the conservative (!) Telegraph right now:
You really have to stop being surprised by this Rod. There are virtually no true conservative voices in the MSM on both sides of the Atlantic. For the most part, Republicans are not conservative. Ditto for the Tories. The one or two true conservatives who actually speak in public garner huge and enthusiastic followings (for example Jacob Rees-Mogg) because they are so rare.
You call people like Ben Shapiro alt-right, and you demonize ordinary right-of-center parties as “far right,” and convince yourself that they are that, you are actually helping the bad guys. You really are.
The media, education, big tech, the entertainment industries: all controlled by the Far Left. Therefore the Overton window shifts and now yes, that Spanish man is far-right. When he finally decides to put on his yellow vest and face the troopers, he will find many more like him. Middle-of-the-road Ben Shapiro and centre-Leftist Jordan Peterson are beyond the pale. The bad guys are indeed coming.
Seoulite, replying to Rod Dreher (bold added).
But “The [Trumpistas’] rhetoric [also] is not designed to map onto reality. It is designed to dominate and win. That’s why it can accommodate such wildly dissonant and contradictory positions.”
Note that I did not say “the conservatives’ ….”
