Would be a shame if anything happened: I think the MAGA wing of MAGA is trying to kill John Bolton and Mike Pompeo. Trump rescinded both of their security details this week. So these men—men the country asked to negotiate with some of the nastiest terrorist nations in the world, men who loyally served their presidents and put themselves in the public eye as the faces of American foreign policy—are now just going to be left totally unguarded in retirement. Left exposed to any random Iranian asset who decides to make a go at it, and these guys are ones the Iranians would love to kill. But Trump doesn’t like them anymore.

There’s MAGA and then there’s MAGA MAGA, and in that second camp are a lot of people who think it’s funny to leave Pompeo and Bolton exposed, unprotected, people who find joy knowing these men might feel fear. These are people who don’t like America’s role as a stabilizing force in the world and want to punish those historically involved with bringing that stability about.

Of course they can get private security, but private security is really expensive. I know from experience: At times, my family needs Large Men Nearby. I speak with authority when I say private security is too expensive, even for moguls like Mike Pompeo and me.
